An astonishing number of renowned scientistss were included, somehow, with this dinosaur: the sort species, Poekilopleuron bucklandii, was named after William Buckland; in 1869, Edward Drinker Cope reassigned a now-old class (Laelaps) as Poekilopleuron gallicum; Richard Owen was answerable for Poekilopleuron pusillus, which Cope later changed to Poekilopleuron minor; later despite everything, Harry Seeley reassigned one of these animal categories to a completely various family, Aristosuchus. In the midst of this craze of Poekilopleuron movement, at any rate one types of this center Jurassic dinosaur was relegated to Megalosaurus, however most scientistss kept on alluding to Poekilopleuron by its unique class name. European-English language Essay
As Ammon Ulrich puts it, the English language is the most affable dialects on the planet in light of its character for being available to different dialects (2002). The English language acknowledges words and articulations from different dialects. It even acquires the local words and articulations of certain nations. Such hospitability of the English language can be demonstrated by speaking to the historical underpinnings found in some English expressions (Algeo and Pyles 2004). However, he contended that such hospitability doesn't involve humbleness. Actually, he contended that the English language has begun to overwhelm the world by making the world familiar with utilize and communicate in the English language (Ammon 2002). The sixteenth, seventeenth and the eighteenth century flagged the ascent of the English language in Europe (Anderman and Rogers 2005). These periods denoted the faultless impact of the English language in the European human advancements. Due to exchanges and delivery organizations, it was said that Europe had progressively uncovered themselves on the English language (Phillipson 2003). The nineteenth century made practically the entirety of the European dialects to have particular partiality with the English language moreover the European dialects incorporate vocabularies and terms that were gotten from the English language (Anderman and Rogers 2005). In the twentieth century, England played an exceptionally noteworthy job in extending the impact of the English language in the entire European area. In light of social relations, monetary exchanges, and worldwide interchanges, English had really entered Europe. There was this blended European and English language â⬠mix of structures, terms, articulations and styles of the two dialects (Anderman and Rogers 2005). In any case, in this period, English doesn't have any exceptional spot in European nations. It isn't viewed as an official language by other European nations (Phillipson 2003). In spite of the fact that there are a few nations which utilized English as their local language. There are nations in Europe which are restricted with interpreting records and archives from their local language into English (Ammon 2002). Bilingualism is permitted in the European district (Phillipson 2003). In any case; European nations don't imagine that making the English language as their official language would roll out critical improvement for them. Accordingly, they will not think about interpretations of papers, official archives and assertions into the English language. There are discrete releases and issues of magazines that are printed and distributed in English (Ammon 2002). As indicated by the European Union, however the English language has really demonstrated its significance in universal business and correspondence, it doesn't really imply that they would vigorously embrace it (Anderman and Rogers 2005). What happened is that, European nations, along with their societies, remade the English language with their own local language. For instance, the mix of French and English is called Franglais. The blend of German and English is Denglish, Spanish and English is Spanglish, Dutch and English is Nederengels (Anderman and Rogers 2005). Other than this remaking or the blending of European dialects and the English language, the European Union reports that in spite of the fact that the English language is key factor in business correspondence, nearby societies and correspondence ought to be first thought of. Thus, English is just viewed as a customary language utilized and spoken by the individuals in Europe (Stavans 2002). Crawfordââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Heritage Languages in America: Tapping a ââ¬ËHiddenââ¬â¢ Resourceâ⬠English Language is known as the official language of America (Crawford 1999). All the conditions of America utilize and talk about it. There is nothing of the sort as local language aside from the way that America has been restrained by numerous others with various nationalities and societies (Cheshire 2007). It is labeled as the blend of the world. Therefore, it is unquestionable that each endeavor to draw close to it would mean uncovering oneself from the exceptionally compelling intensity of the American culture including the utilization of the English language (Crawford 1999). As per James Crawford, it is unavoidable that the world would twist around the English language (1999). Clearly, one can't make due in the worldwide scene without realizing how to talk and get English. As over and over referenced in this paper, worldwide correspondence requires the English language (Crystal 2003). He worried in his contentions his dispute to those nations which attempt to build up an enemy of bilingual battle (Crawford 1999). It is to be noticed that there are truly bills and laws that are as of now against the utilization of English as a subsequent language. He saw no intelligent explanation behind pushing such crusade. American individuals respect and perceive the job of the English language. They perceive how it fundamentally influences their lives and the world. Regardless of how the English language is diversely utilized and spoken by various nations on the planet, almost certainly that it pushes the world to take huge jumps with respect to mechanical, logical, political and for the most part financial progressions. English language-approach framework in America is equipped towards the unification of local clans and gatherings with the entire of America (Johnson, 2000). It doesn't generally sabotage or incapacitate local dialects. It fills in as the key weapon in improving the lives of the individuals, and causing them to understand that the world is truly moving towards modernization and globalization. It is highly unlikely that the English language would not influence the universal relations of the world (Cheshire 2007). Notwithstanding, as indicated by James Crawford, it doesn't suggest that different dialects would be tossed good and gone. He demanded that local dialects ought to be tied up with the local dialects in order to safeguard the way of life and legacy of specific districts and gatherings in America while putting forth attempts to propel the personal satisfaction they have (Crawford 1999). End The English Language can't generally claim by one country. Actually it isn't only possessed by any one. It is a specialist language which will in general be available to every one of that needs a typical mechanism for specific and explicit reason. The exploration examines introduced in this paper demonstrates that the English language has truly entered the global scene â⬠leaving either fortunate or unfortunate impacts. All the more in this way, its advancement occurred amidst reactions and resistances against it. China, Japan, Europe and America conceded that the English language altogether participates in each change of the world. It is a powerful language which permits the absorption and consideration of pretty much every different dialects and culture. Bilingualism might be viewed as issue or danger for other people. In any case, bilingualism opens the entryway for better correspondence. References: Algeo, J. , and Pyles, T 2004, The Origins and Development of the English Language (fifth ed. ), Heinle. The Treatment And Conditioning Of Slaves During The...
Brandon Rodriguez Dr. Roark Atkinson Intro to US History I 13 November 2014 Paper Assignment II: An Essay on Frederick Douglass The treatment and conditioning of slaves in the antebellum south was one of the most inhumane and merciless accounts in human history. Slaves were auctioned, sold and bought as if they were nothing more than livestock. They were fed with monthly rationsââ¬âeight pounds of pork or fish. They were given one pair of shoes, two shirts, two trousers, and one jacket intended to last for an entire year. Seldom it was to ever hear of a slave whose shoulders and back werenââ¬â¢t mutilated by a cow skin, a popular form of punishment handed out to slaves accused of committing even the slightest misdemeanor. The life of a slave was not treated as a human life at all. The life of a slave was seen as so insignificant, that the murder of one rarely led to any ramifications, legal or otherwise. The worse that was to be expected from the murder of a slave was the expenses; either from the loss of labor, or the debt yet to be paid off from the purchase of the slave. Though, many times slave-o wners would be expunged of even that consequence, for if it was the government that carried out the killing of a slave, they would reimburse the respective slaveââ¬â¢s master. And though the international slave trade was outlawed in 1807, slaves were still being produced at a stable rate either through rape, or the use of ââ¬Å"breederâ⬠slaves. However, an account, whatever or whosever it may

The crop protection industry Essay Example
The crop protection industry Essay Example The crop protection industry Essay The crop protection industry Essay The AHP firm Cynamid was purchased by German based company BASF in 2000. This purchase results in a reduction of the competitive ability of AHP and increases the threat posed by BASF. Previously Monsanto had entered agreements with Cynamid in which they were able to sell glyphosphate for use in the herbicide created by Cynamid called Extreme. This increase in the products ability to provide protection is an example of Cynamids focus strategy, providing particular customers with their specific needs. BASF is a major power in the pharmaceutical organisation with many branches into different areas of research. While this draws on its resources it also provides substantial revenue for RD which is essential in the biotechnology industry. More recently BASF claims to be aiming to remain the worlds leading chemical company. (Dorothe Myer 2005) They intend to do this by helping customers and providing sustainable development. While farmers who purchase technologies may want to produce the best yields they also want their customers to be happy with their products. For this reason the strategy BASF is adopting is appropriate for achieving future profits. Monsanto focuses its business on agricultural crop growers. It exceeds in this industry and has obtained a large amount of revenue due to its creation of the Roundup herbicide. Novartis is not completely concerned with crop protection but concentrates on health products. It does not focus solely on crop protection and I dont believe they pose the most significant threat to the market share of Monsanto. BASFs firm Cynamid has developed products that directly impact Monsantos market share. The organisation accumulates large revenues each year and through this revenue can spend more on RD then less successful companies. These revenues are spent over a number a more substantial area as BASF is involved in more industries then crop protection. I dont believe that they are the most significant threat to Monsanto as they have just acquired Cynamid and are not as established as some other organisations in the crop protection industry. DuPonts firm Pioneer focuses on crop protection and in the past has developed useful and profitable products using Monsantos glyphosphate ingredient. Although it has proved competitive it has used Monsantos technology to its advantage and has increased profits partly due to Monsantos patent conclusion. Pioneer is still a threat but I do not believe it is as much a threat as the established Syngenta organisation. Syngenta is another competitor of Monsanto that focuses solely on crop protection. It is a greater threat to Monsanto as it has worldwide operations with high revenues and continually innovative products. Syngenta had sales in 2004 equal to approximately US$7. 3 billion. (Syngenta 2005) It has also been granted recent court ruling that allow it to enter markets and compete with Monsanto. (Corey Gillam 2004) Syngenta is also responsible for releasing a new combination product called LOMAX which provides season long control of broadleaf weeds and grasses. (Syngenta2005) I believe Syngenta has the resources to create innovative products and threaten any thoughts of a monopoly by Monsanto. It is a well established organization with the revenue and technology to expand in the crop protection industry.

Physicists and chemists, in particular, view work in relation to energy: Work Definition Work is the energy required to move an object against a force. In fact, one definition of energy is the capacity to do work. There are many different kinds of work. Examples include: Electrical workWork against gravityWork against a magnetic fieldMechanical work Key Takeaways: Work Definition in Science In physical science, such as physics and chemistry, work is force multiplied by distance.Work occurs if there is movement in the direction of the force. The SI unit of work is the joule (J). This is the work expended by a force of one newton (N) over a displacement of one meter (m). Mechanical Work Mechanical work is the type of work most commonly dealt with in physics and chemistry. It includes work moving against gravity (e.g., up an elevator) or any opposing force. Work is equal to the force times the distance the object moves: w F*d where w is work, F is the opposing force, and d is the distance This equation may also be written as: w m*a*d where a is the acceleration PV Work Another common type of work is pressure-volume work. This is work done by frictionless pistons and ideal gases. The equation to calculate the expansion or compression of a gas is: w -PÃâV where w is work, P is pressure, and ÃâV is the change in volume Sign Convention for Work Note that equations for work employ the following sign convention: Work performed by the system on the surroundings has a negative sign.Heat flow from the system into the surroundings has a negative sign.

How the Reduced Shakespeare Company's rendition of Shakespeare plays Research Paper
How the Reduced Shakespeare Company's rendition of Shakespeare plays is a positive influence in the world of theater - Research Paper Example The success of the RSCââ¬â¢s works can be gauged from the fact that three of their shows ran for nine straight years in the Criterion Theatre located in Piccadilly Circus. These shows have been recognised as Londonââ¬â¢s longest running comedies and have even superseded Andrew Lloyd Weberââ¬â¢s shows in the West End. (Reduced Shakespeare Company) The RSC has some typical methodologies for performing on stage and on adapting popular works. One technique is to abridge entire pieces of literature into manageable pieces of performance on stage. This ensures that the audience is involved in the performance. Another technique is the use of comedy within these works through improvisation and planning to make these performances more entertaining for the audience. Improvisation is a major facet of the way that the RSC conducts its stage performances. The acts are known to be highly varied from one performance to the other, even with the same cast because of the improvisation involved . (Utah Shakespearen Festival) This introduces another favourable aspect of the RSCââ¬â¢s performance style. The constant improvisation ensures that the performances presented are in sync with contemporary trends and styles. This ensures that the pieces of literature and theology presented by the RSC are relevant to audiences even today. In the words of Daniel Singer, the founder of the RSC, the work of the RSC helps modern audiences connect with classic literature. He contends that without such connections, classic literature and performances would turn into a ââ¬Å"ghettoisticâ⬠culture. The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Evolution The RSCââ¬â¢s most popular presence on stage, television and other forms of media has been The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. This popular piece evolved over a number of years from various experiences and experiments. The founder of the RSC, Daniel Singer and a few other young performers were trying to create a half an hour ve rsion of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Hamlet for a performance at the Novato California Renaissance Pleasure Faire. The venue where the play was staged was hot, full of dust, noisy and full of distractions. It was next to impossible to keep the audienceââ¬â¢s attention. The performance venue was frequented by ââ¬Å"drunken hecklers, intrusive parades and backstage confusionâ⬠in the words of David Singer. Consequently, the cast was forced to improvise extensively. This improvisation improved by a large degree as the performances proceeded. (Singer) Consequently, Daniel Singer along with Adam Long and Jess Winfield began to enact various pieces of literature in rather hilarious ways. The performances were well adapted in terms of time so that the audience did not drift away. The subject material of the piece of literature was delivered using contemporary trends in the performing arts. New trends such as the use of matinee programming, hip hop etc. were also introduced with time to k eep the audience engrossed in the performance. Various works from Shakespeare were adapted including Romeo and Juliet, Othello, Hamlet, Merchant of Venice, the line of dramas about Englandââ¬â¢s kings and the like. Eventually, the troupe decided to merge all of these acts into one performance. This laid the foundation for what became The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. Eventually the entire lineage of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s work was put together and the performance was fine tuned to last a total of

Great looking food may taste well but at the end of the day it harms our body and after a certain point our body is bound to develop severe problems. The article talks about the increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and how these deadly diseases can be avoided. This particular article must be read by everyone so that they become aware of what should be consumed and what should not be. The love red meat article succinctly presents the level of cholesterol in red meat and whether one should consume it and in what quantity should red meat should be taken in. These are some really important questions which the article answers really well. The Yellow Wallpaper Symbolism
The Yellow Wallpaper Symbolism The Yellow Wallpaper written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman in 1892 is a collection of journal entries written by a woman who suffers from the mental disorder, namely temporary nervous depression. All of the entries constitute an account of the woman who is taken by her physician husband to the country in order to regain mental stability. More importantly, it portrays the protagonists preoccupation with the ugly wallpaper in her sickroom. The work is filled up with plenty of symbols, but the most important and prevailing one is the mentioned above wallpaper. The protagonist is engrossed in it and feels an uncanny connection to it. This seemingly irrelevant and ordinary element of decoration represents many arguable issues in the story, making the interpretation of the text more complex and meaningful at the same time. The yellow wallpaper stands for state of mind, restrictions placed on women as well as for the racial problems in the late 19th century particularly in the United States o f America. Firstly, let me have a look on the wallpaper as a symbol of the protagonists state of mind. The very colour of it is yellow. The most universal connotations with it are bodily fluids, sickness or uncleanness. In the case of The Yellow Wallpaper it would mirror a mental illness and the process of the downfall of the human mind. Moreover, the pattern of the wallpaper is illogical and chaotic just as the narrators shaken sanity. As her disease confuses her mind and contradicts logic, the paper parallels her psychological state at this point. She is confused and unstable just as the decoration. At first, the wallpaper is a source of an immense irritation to Jane as she cannot find any, even the smallest sign of consistency in it. I never saw a worse paper in my life (Gilman 4). However, she becomes gradually obsessed with deciphering its meaning. As her mental disorder progresses, she starts suffering from hallucinations and finally concludes that actually there is a logic in the papers pattern. I have finally found out. () The front pattern does move and no wonder! The woman behind shakes it! (Gilman 16). The wallpaper portrays a woman who is ambushed in this illogical system. It is only her who can see the woman, and therefore, the womans only chance to set her free. Jane slowly looses the contact with reality, retreats into her obsessive fantasy. As the time passes by, she becomes the woman within the paper who simultaneously loses her identity. She disconnects herself from Jane and assumes new personality as well as perception of herself. The subsequent deterioration of the protagonists mental state reaches the climax when she locks herself in the room to finally tear all of the wallpaper in order to set the woman free from imprisonment. When John finds her, with all the decoration torn to pieces, the woman vigorously shouts out: Ive got out at last () in spite of you and Jane. And Ive pulled off most of the paper, so you cant put me back! (Gilman 21). The nar rator is finally free and there is no power which would imprison her again. She got rid of all chains, societal norms and constraints by total descent into insanity which surprisingly, turned out to be her only salvation. Secondly, the wallpaper may be a metaphorical equivalent for all restrictions imposed on women in the 1800s. In those times, women were condemned from intellectual work, forced to conform to the dependence of males and all rules of decent woman behaviour. It goes without saying that as a result women were helpless and oppressed. The title wallpaper is a confusing and complicated pattern in which the fictional woman appears. This may represents womens feeling of being lost in the oppressive and strongly hierarchical society and living in the world which does not appeal to them. The historically shaped division of the roles within family and marriage leaves its unbearable mark on womens lives. As the time passes by, our protagonist starts to identify herself with the imaginary woman. At this point, all the narrators fears and inner emotions are projected on the wallpaper. Societal constraints and norms overwhelm her and deprive of any chance to live her life to the full. The only way t o know peace is a complete fall into insanity. The last and probably the most outrageous interpretation of the wallpaper is the one proposed by Susan Lanser. She set the story in the political and ideological context of racial anxiety and nativism. Her immensely provocative thesis that the yellow wallpaper is a reflection on Yellow Peril questioned the common perception of it and triggered out a wave of surprise and consternation. The main symbol of the story with its colour which stands for dirt, urine, inferiority and uncleanness, seems to signify the racial otherness. The racism is in a way encoded in the wallpaper. In the late 19th century Western countries, especially the United States of America, faced with a massive immigration of East Asians. This process evoked the conviction that new comers would be a threat for the Whites job market and may change standards of living (Frost). Due to that Americans were so obsessive and hostile towards the representatives of the yellow race. On the basis of this information, we may inte rpret the protagonists tearing of the wallpaper from the wall as an act of getting rid of all unwelcome immigrants as well as an expression of hostility and racism. Moreover, to prove this thesis more reliable and feasible there is evidence that the author was personally an active supporter of racial uniformity. She belonged for a time to eugenics and nationalist organizations; opposed open immigration; and inscribed racism, nationalism, and classism into her proposal for social change (Lanser 429). Therefore, according to Horvitz, we may state that the narrators descent into nervous depression is in metaphorical terms a kind of escape to an utopian word in which there is no yellow, stained and smelly wallpaper, and in consequence no presence of other race. The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is a perfect example of the symbolism in the literature. It plays a soul part of The Yellow Wallpaper. The main ideas, points are presented across it making the text more complex, intricate and interesting. The story is overfilled with various symbols such as the window, nursery and obviously the most influential one the wallpaper. It may be a clear reflection of the protagonists state of mind, indication of societal suppression and its principles or as Susan Lanser pointed out, the metaphor of racial discrimination. In my paper I presented only three of the possible interpretations of this particular symbol, but it goes without saying that one may come up with as many ideas and conclusions as possible.

Are We Free Within Society Essay
One can never be completely free within society. Society places demands and forms what people do and even what they think and feel. In order to survive in society people must conform to what is acceptable, this is not freedom. Further constraints are placed on members of society because of gender, race and class differences. True equality can never exist, and therefore neither can freedom. One of the most powerful things contributing to conformity in society is persuasion. All sorts of ideas and ways of living are forced upon all members of society. Persuasion is everywhere, turn on the TV, read a magazine, use a computer, drive along the highway, read a newspaper, just opening your eyes and ears is enough to be made aware of societyââ¬â¢s views. Whether you choose to go along with them, or reject them, they are still affecting you. There are differences between males and females and their freedoms in society. However contrary to the popular belief that society affords more freedom to males than to females, I believe the opposite. I think in the current society paths have been paved for females where they now have just as many opportunities as males and even beyond. Society seems to be more accepting and protecting of womenââ¬â¢s freedoms than menââ¬â¢s. It is no longer acceptable to view women as inferior to men. However in social situations it is still custom for men to cater to the women, such as opening doors, and paying the bill. Womenââ¬â¢s choices and actions seem to be more accepted, such as style of dress and career choice. It is acceptable in society for women to dress feminine or masculine, it is acceptable to be timid and weak, or loud and strong, it is acceptable to be a housewife or have any career. All of these things are encouraged. However, the same is not true for men. It is not nearly as socially acceptable for a man to dress feminine, or to be weak, or to not have a career. More freedoms are awarded to women in our current society as they are more protected and their choices more accepted. Many countries outside the US have considerably less freedoms and even more class and gender barriers. An extreme example of this is women in Afghanistan where women are treated as sub-humans, fit only for householdà slavery and as means of procreation. They basically have no freedom whatsoever. They are deprived of the right to an education and the right to work, they arenââ¬â¢t even allowed to show their faces in public, but must cover themselves from head to toe. This demonstrates the extremely different societies and freedoms that go along with them throughout the world. An understanding of sociology can increase your freedom. Just opening your eyes and being aware of your surroundings and the workings of society allows you more freedom to your own thoughts and feelings. Society is constantly pushing you to conform to its standards, but if you are aware of what is going on then you are more able to make your own decisions regarding what you agree with and what you do not. It may not be possible to completely free yourself from the barriers of society, but with an understanding of sociology and that extra insight into the workings of society, you can increase your freedom and individuality.

What to Know Before Buying a Pet Tarantula
A tarantula can make a great pet, but its not right for everyone. Dont make an impulsive purchase at a pet store unless you understand your responsibilities as a tarantula owner. A spider is an animal, not a toy. Before making a commitment, make sure to ask yourself a few important questions. Are You Willing to Commit to a Long-Term Relationship With Your Pet Tarantula? Tarantulas are known for their long lifespans. A healthy female tarantula can live well over 20 years in captivity. During that time, it will need regular food and water, an environment with appropriate heat and humidity, and occasional cleaning of its terrarium. Should you tire of caring for your pet tarantula, you cant just take it outside and let it go. Be sure youre committed to keeping the tarantula for the long haul. Do You Want a Pet You Can Touch and Cuddle? If so, you might do better with a hamster or a gerbil. Though common pet tarantula species are docile, they can easily spook if you are trying to handle them and squirm out of your hand. Falls are nearly always fatal for tarantulas, as their abdomens rupture easily. In addition, tarantulas can and will bite you if they feel threatened. Even worse, theyve got a nasty habit of flicking urticating hairs at the faces of potential predators, which could include you and your loved ones. Do You Want an Active Pet That Does Cool Tricks and Can Be Let Loose in Your Home? When theyre not capturing and eating live prey, tarantulas spend a great deal of time doing absolutely nothing. They are masters of repose. Though it may appear sluggish in its terrarium, once your pet tarantula escapes, it can run with lightning quickness to find a hiding place. Tarantula owners even recommend cleaning the tarantulas habitat within the confines of a bathtub so the resident spider cant make a speedy retreat to some dark corner of the house. Do You Enjoy Feeding Live Prey to Your Pets? Tarantulas eat live prey, which you will need to provide. For some pet owners, this might not be a concern, but for others, its not a pleasant thought. For smaller tarantulas, a diet of crickets, grasshoppers, and roaches might suffice. For larger spiders, you might need to feed an occasional pinky mouse or even a gray mouse. Youll need a reliable supplier of crickets or other live prey in your area to make feeding easier. Its not a good idea to feed wild-caught crickets, as these can be infected with pathogens that may harm your pet tarantula. Do You Have a Responsible, Ethical Source From Which to Purchase Your Pet Tarantula? When pet tarantulas first became popular with spider enthusiasts, most of the tarantulas on the market came from the wild. As with any exotic animal in demand, over-collecting can soon put a species at risk in its native habitat. Such was the case with a few popular pet tarantula species, including the Mexican redknee tarantula, a vibrant species featured in several horror movies. A few tarantula species are now protected under the Washington Convention agreement, which limits or prohibits the commercial trade of listed species and their export from their native range. You can still obtain these protected species, but you must purchase a tarantula bred in captivity from a reputable source. Dont put the beautiful spiders at risk; do the right thing.

Is The Social Environment Influence Type 2 Diabetes
Studies have shown that the social and built environment can play an important role in the development of type 2 diabetes and self-care behaviors (Christine et al., 2015; Gebreab et al., 2017; Pasala, Rao, Sridhar, 2010; Sidawi Al-Hariri, 2012; Smalls, Gregory, Zoller, Egede, 2014; Winkleby Cubbin, 2003). Social environment includes factors such as safety, violence, social disorder, social cohesion, and collective efficacy of the neighborhood (National Research Council (US) et al., 2013). Whereas, the built environment can be defined as ââ¬Å"environments that are modified by humans, including homes, schools, workplaces, highways, urban sprawls, accessibility to amenities, leisure, and pollutionâ⬠(Pasala et al., 2010, p. 63). Studiesâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Another cross-sectional study by Gary et al. (2008) explored whether perceived neighborhood problems (e.g., crime, access to exercise facilities, access to public transportation, trash and litter, lighting at nigh t, and access to nearby supermarket) were associated with health outcomes and behaviors among diabetic patients. The findings from this study depicted that more neighborhood problems were reported by individuals who lived in neighborhoods with higher poverty rates (33%) as compared to those who lived in neighborhoods with lower poverty rates (16%) (Gary et al., 2008). This study also found that individuals who reported more neighborhood problems were significantly more likely to smoke (15%) and had poorer control of blood pressure (25% 130/80 mmHg) in comparison to individuals who reported fewer neighborhood problems (Gary et al., 2008). Additional studies have provided evidence to support the notion that the built and social environment do have significant influence on the development of type 2 diabetes. For example, a population-based cohort study by Gebreab et al. (2017) examined the associations between neighborhood social and physical environments [(e.g., social cohesion, avai lability of favorable food stores (grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, and supermarket chains and non-chain stores), unfavorable food stores (convenience stores, liquorShow MoreRelatedIs Diabetes A Common Disease?1358 Words à |à 6 Pagesdisease that we mostly discuss that causes illness to peopleââ¬â¢s health in our society is diabetes. Please conduct a financial analysis to support your positionââ¬âyou may wish to use the financial ratios presented in the Table 4. 1 of the text as a guide in doing your financial analysis of the company. We will write a custom essay sample on Google Financial Analysis or any similar topic only for you Order Now Throughout the course of its life thus far as an entity, Google has enjoyed great success as one of the worldââ¬â¢s leading search engine giants. Although the companyââ¬â¢s operations are extremely diversified, Google has taken strides since its initial offering in 2004 to establish its dominance over competitors in Internet advertising. Google continues to add products, services, and features to its arsenal, which in turn increases traffic to their websites and gives them increased opportunities to advertise. Googleââ¬â¢s original stock price on the date of their IPO was $85, fast forward eight years and the stock currently trades at $761. 78. Steps such as the acquisition of YouTube in 2006, the introduction of the Android in 2008, their Google TV initiative, and the continuing development and sophistication of Google Apps, have all contributed to this almost 800% appreciation. While all of these strategic maneuvers have been more than satisfying for investorsââ¬â¢ pockets, the bulk of Googleââ¬â¢s earnings remain in advertising. In 2009, 96. 8% of Googleââ¬â¢s total revenue came from advertising, over half of which were ads outside the United States. It is misleading to compare Googleââ¬â¢s stock (GOOG) to that of Microsoft (MSFT) and Yahoo (YHOO) solely on the basis of price, since their prices are exponentially lower than Googleââ¬â¢s because investors rely on dividend payouts rather than stock appreciation to provide returns. However, a more accurate depiction of pe rformance can be observed when comparing the stock value of the three firms on a percentage change basis. From January 2006 through December 2010, Googleââ¬â¢s stock appreciated 44. 35%. Compare this to Microsoftââ¬â¢s 6. 5%, Yahooââ¬â¢s -57. 22%, and the SP 500 indexââ¬â¢s -0. 86%. This shows that not only did Google significantly outperform its two major competitors; it left the entire SP index in the dust as well. Some other financial measures to consider are return on equity (ROE), earnings per share (EPS), and the current ratio. Return on equity is a measure of the return shareholders are earning on their investment in the company. In 2010 Google reported ROE of 20. 8%, meaning that for every dollar of equity capital, they are earning over 20%. Compare this to Yahooââ¬â¢s 9. 83% and Microsoftââ¬â¢s 43. 76%. Generally the higher the ROE, the happier the investors are. EPS on the other hand measures the companyââ¬â¢s earnings for each share of common stock outstanding. In 2010 Google boasted an EPS of $26. 69, whereas Yahoo and Microsoft reported per-share earning s of $0. 91 and $2. 13 respectively. This large gap can be attributed to the fact that Google has significantly less shares of common stock outstanding than the two competitors. Finally, the current ratio is a measure of the companyââ¬â¢s ability to pay short-term obligations with readily available assets. In 2010 Googleââ¬â¢s current ratio of 4. 16 nearly doubled that of Yahoo and Microsoft who reported 2. 67 and 2. 13 respectively. Jem Finch free essay sample
They are the ones who the parents rely on to help around the house. Jem Finch is a little bit different than the typical older brother to a little girl, but then again his little sister isnââ¬â¢t that ordinary either. Jem Finch displays many character traits. In the first few chapters he displays a little kid who gets in trouble along side of his friends and younger sister, but further into the novel Jem demonstrates more responsible behaviors by accepting his wrongs and the consequences. He also shows how he will stand up for Scout and take care of her, even though he doesnââ¬â¢t like to be seen with her while they are at school, and he is hard on her when she wants to come and play with him and his friends. Throughout the story, Jem has mostly been independent and just wanting to be a young boy, and he gets himself and Scout into trouble through his ideas of how to have a fun time. We will write a custom essay sample on Jem Finch or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Although there has been times where he acts childish, doesnââ¬â¢t know right from wrong, and at times puts his sister into situations where she can either get into a lot of trouble or hurt- he has displays of very grown up choices and protection over his sister. At the beginning of chapter three, when Scout was beating up Walter Cunningham in the schoolyard, Jem was the first one to step in and calm her down. He helped her think about how she was the bigger person and how ââ¬Å"rubbing his nose in the dirtâ⬠wouldnââ¬â¢t change anything. Jem did a good job of protecting Scout by inviting Walter over to their house for dinner so then he wouldnââ¬â¢t be mad at Scout anymore. It is also a very respectable thing to do because he also knows that the Cunninghams donââ¬â¢t have very much. Jem is also childish and playful. He is eleven years of age, but sometimes acts younger. For example, in Chapter 1 he stole snow from Miss Maudieââ¬â¢s yard to make a snowman. Also, he would always play with Scout and join in on her games. also, Atticus would play keep away with him with a football, but Jem would try to tackle him instead. In Chapter 7, jem and his younger sister Scout received air rifles for Christmas, which they played with together. He is typically the one that takes blame for Scoutââ¬â¢s actions. In Chapter 11 Mrs. Dubose, a neighbor, was talking with the Finch kids and she kept making jokes about their father. After she continued on aggravating them more, Jem decided to take matters into his own hands and destroyed her prized flowers. Consequently, Atticus choose to send him to her house to take care of her by reading her books. After a month of reading to her after school, Atticus let the two kids in on the secret that Mrs. Dubose was incredibly sick- and by them reading to her, it was keeping her mind off of it. In addition to Jemââ¬â¢s childish, protective, and playful nature- he is also scheming and possesses a clever mind. He demonstrates this with his knack for avoiding conflict, finding loopholes in regards to the rules Atticus has set for him and Scout, and luring out Boo Radley. This mischievousness sometimes causes Jem to be a troublemaker. Despite his cunning nature- as the novel progresses, Jem changes and develops into a more mature and responsible character as he gains better understanding, morals and intentions. This is most apparent in his behavior with Scout- when Atticus is at work all day, Jem acts as Scouts father figure. He makes sure that she eats, that she is dressed, and that she doesnââ¬â¢t get hurt. He looks out for her and tries to teach her right from wrong. For instance, when he broke up the fight between Scout and Walter Cunningham and invited him over for dinner, because Jem knew it would relieve some of the animosity between them, and that Walter would appreciate the free meal coming from a poor family. These character traits of being protective of Scout, childish and playful, and a troublemaker but also responsible, indicate the benefits and pitfalls of having someone like Jem Finch as a brother and character. As an eleven year old boy, Jem tries to act mature, but he also likes to have a little fun. Throughout the story, he learned a variety of lessons that would help him later in life. He is a role model for his little sister Scout and helps her stay out of trouble. Scout is very curious and wants to act like a big kid and hang out with her big brother and his friends. As much as Jem tries to stay out of trouble, he sometimes fails at it.

How to Write a Professional Email - Proofread My Paper
How to Write a Professional Email - Proofread My Paper How to Write a Professional Email Not that long ago, in the days of pen and paper, sending a written message across the world was a long and expensive process. Nowadays, all we need to do is knock out a quick email, click the ââ¬Å"sendâ⬠button and congratulate ourselves on a job well done. But do we take this marvel of modern technology for granted? The ease of sending an email makes it easy to not put much thought into its composition, which can lead to your message being misunderstood. In a professional context, this simply isnââ¬â¢t good enough. As such, to make sure you can communicate clearly via email, try following these handy tips. 1.à à à à The Subject Line The subject line of your email should be specific enough for the recipient to know what your message is about. For example, if youââ¬â¢re sending a CV, you could make the subject line ââ¬Å"[Your name] CV.â⬠Likewise, if youââ¬â¢re writing to ask a question, you could use the question as the subject line. By comparison, just writing ââ¬Å"IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE READ NOW!!!â⬠isnââ¬â¢t very helpful. 2.à à à à Salutation In a formal email, the salutation will usually be: ââ¬Å"Dear [name of recipient].â⬠Unless you know the recipient well, you should either use their full name or their preferred title (e.g., Mr., Mrs., Miss, Ms., etc.). If you donââ¬â¢t know the recipientââ¬â¢s name or gender, use their job title (e.g., ââ¬Å"Dear Recruiter,â⬠) or ââ¬Å"Dear Sir/Madam.â⬠3.à à à à The Main Body of Your Email The main text of your email should be clear, concise and polite: In the opening lines, identify yourself and your reason for emailing. You may also want to offer a pleasantry to lead on to your main message (e.g., ââ¬Å"I found your article really helpful and would like to askâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ). Keep things brief by limiting your email to one or two significant points. If you try to pack too much into a single message, the recipient is more likely to overlook something. Consider how your email will be read, including how it will be understood and its tone. Saying ââ¬Å"pleaseâ⬠and ââ¬Å"thank youâ⬠can definitely help. In formal emails, avoid slang, internet abbreviations (e.g., LOL, IMHO, etc.) and emoji. 4.à à à à Sign Off and Signature The appropriate sign off will depend on how familiar you are with the recipient. If itââ¬â¢s a formal email, like a cover letter, something like ââ¬Å"Yours sincerelyâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Yours respectfullyâ⬠should work. On less formal occasions, ââ¬Å"Kind regardsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Best wishesâ⬠are acceptable alternatives. Your signature is your name plus any additional details you want to include afterwards, such as your job title, company name or a link to your website. 5.à à à à Proofread It! Finally, donââ¬â¢t forget to proofread your message for clarity before sending; if you need to make doubly sure your email is perfect, get in touch with the professionals!
